Helping Young Women Find Their Voice Through Storytelling

The Women’s Youth Writing Association (WYWA) is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to helping young women discover their voice through storytelling. Through mentorship, workshops, and creative programs, we provide teens with the guidance, community, and opportunities they need to build confidence, explore their ideas, and develop meaningful stories that reflect who they are and who they aspire to become.

WYWA made history at SFMOMA as the first youth-led, women-led organization to host a booth in the White Box, where we spoke to an audience of over 200 attendees about our debut anthology, Unfiltered: A Sisterhood of Stories.

Founder and Executive Director

Genevieve Tran

A first-generation Asian American from San Francisco, Genevieve is a junior at Lowell High School with a strong commitment to project management, storytelling, women’s empowerment, and advocacy for underserved and minority communities. She founded the Women’s Youth Writing Association after growing up in male-dominated spaces, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and later becoming immersed in corporate environments where gender inequality remains normalized even today. These experiences motivated her to advocate for equity through creative writing and passionate storytelling. Building WYWA has allowed her to create a community not only in her home city of San Francisco, but across the world, a journey she finds deeply rewarding.
